There are always at least two shadows. One is cast by the object itself. The other is the one we create in our own minds. A glass of wine can be just a glass of wine. A body can be just a body. But add a few lines, shift the light, hide part of the image — and suddenly everyone sees something different. Perhaps we never really look at things as they are. We look at them through our memories, desires, and imagination. And sometimes the second shadow tells us more than the first.
